NACOS Marine,Trade press release, 17 June 2026

NACOS Marine has completed the delivery of a navalnavigation training simulator to the Swedish Armed Forces, following formalhandover through Sweden's defence procurement agency, FMV (Försvarets Materielverk). The system, named Nereus, marks the successful conclusion of a three-yeardevelopment programme and represents a significant delivery milestone for NACOSMarine in the Navy and Government segment.

Nereus is built on NACOS Platinum, the same integratednavigation platform installed across the Swedish Navy's surface vessel fleet. The design brief from FMV required the training environment to mirroroperational conditions as closely as possible, so that naval personnel candevelop and maintain the same skills they apply aboard vessels at sea.

TheNereus installation at Sjöstridsskolan in Karlskrona includes bridgesimulators, classroom training stations, debriefing facilities, and dedicatedinstructor positions. The system is designed to support structured exercisesacross navigation, maritime rescue and manoeuvring, accommodating both digitaland analogue navigation techniques. Instructors can create, lead and analyseexercises from dedicated instructor positions, with full debriefing capabilitybuilt in.

Thesimulator supports a range of training scenarios, including radar-only inshorenavigation, a specific requirement for Sweden's complex coastal archipelago. With demand for navigation training within the Swedish Armed Forces increasing,Nereus was installed in new premises at Sjöstridsskolan alongside the existingsimulator, allowing training to continue uninterrupted.

“The purpose is to be able to work in the simulator in thesame way as one does aboard the Swedish Armed Forces' vessels. The bridgesimulators, which look like a real ship's bridge, will allow the Swedish ArmedForces to carry out realistic exercises in navigation, maritime rescue andmanoeuvring using various digital and analogue aids.” Johan Stjernberg, ProjectManager, FMV

NACOS Marine was responsible for the navigation systemelement of the Nereus programme, partnering with simulation specialist Vstep BVfor the broader simulator architecture. The contract was initially awarded byFMV and required close coordination between the navigation system supplier andthe simulation platform to achieve the level of fidelity and integrationSjöstridsskolan required.

The delivery reinforces NACOS Marine's established presencewith the Swedish Navy and its growing capability to support naval trainingalongside operational deployments. For NACOS Marine, the naval and governmentsegment represents a long-term strategic focus, with an emphasis on deliveringsystems that meet the security, longevity, and precision demands of defencecustomers.

"Delivering Nereus to the Swedish Armed Forces is aproject we are genuinely proud of. Working closely with FMV over three years, with hundreds of requirements to meet, is exactly the kind of demanding,precision-focused programme that plays to our strengths. The fact that Nereusruns on the same NACOS Platinum platform as the fleet itself means studentstrain on the real thing from day one, that is a meaningful advantage for anynavy." Thorstein Franche, Sales Manager, Navy, NACOS Marine.
